February Favorites!

February in Ohio has brought some realllllllll weird weather, but it was a quick and pleasant month. Here are some of my favorite products that I enjoyed the whole month of February, enjoy (:

lululemon Toasty Tech Tight II

I wear these leggings 99% of my life and I’m not even made about it. They are so incredibly warm because they have sweat-wicking tech fleece brushed on the inside of them. I’ve worn them in single-digit weather and could barely feel the cold wind on my legs, it was insane. They are probably the most comfortable pair of leggings I own, they’re stretchy & thick, they have a higher waist band & reflective pockets so they’re great or running at night. If it’s cold where you live & you want to get a good pair of leggings that will keep you warm outside, these are perfect!

Skin Food by Aubrey

I discovered these products at my local Whole Foods store a few weeks back & decided I’d give them a try! I got the Detox Face Mask, the Lavender Probiotic Natural Deodorant, and the Immunity Body Butter. She creates Artisan organic skincare and all of her products are made with raw ingredients. Aubrey lives somewhat close to me & her products are sold locally in Ohio at select Whole Foods stores! Supporting local is huge for me & her products are seriously amazing. The detox mask you mix with water & then apply the serum after and the next day your skin will be glowing and radiant looking. The deodorant is fantastic & I can go through a workout and not smell myself (which is a huge feat for me lol). The body butter is probably my favorite item of all because it’s so hydrating and smells AMAZING! I really believe its very important to watch what you put on your body as well as what you ingest. It’s hard with all these products out now a days, but products like these make going to organic products so much easier! Check out her Etsy shop here (: She has everything you possibly think of!

Nike Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit

I’m obsessed. Lol. I really don’t have much to say about them except I was so excited to get these and they’re so different for me because I usually wear Free Runs & Air Max shoes. These are super light & they are actually incredibly comfortable, if you’re looking to change up your shoes or you’re bored with your current shoes, check these out!

Young Living Essential Oils

I discovered Young Living not long ago & I’m so glad I decided to finally take the leap of faith. These oils are actually amazing & I’m not gonna lie, I was super skeptical about them to begin with. I figured what could an oil actually do for you? But boy was I wrong. I already have a few favorites but I’m thinking about doing a whole post on that here in the near future (let me know if you’d be interested in seeing a post like that!). Since using these, I’ve really reduced the anxiety I deal with, my sleep has gotten dramatically better, my stress has really lessened & so have the effects I have from it, and my energy level have increased. Sounds like a miracle but I really do believe these oils have worked, at least my mind believes they have because I’ve seen really great improvements from using these. I got the Starter Kit with the Dewdrop diffuser & if you don’t know a whole lot about essential oils, definitely do some research on them!

Sephora Express Cleansing Wipes

These cleansing wipes are EVERYTHING. I’ve used just about every makeup remover wipe under the sun and these easily take the cake. I used them to take up normal makeup for about a week, but the real test was just the other night when I used them to take off a full face of glam makeup. I use the House of Lashes lash glue & if you’ve used it before you understand how incredibly hard it is to get all of it off. I’ve had lash glue stuck in my lashes before for over a week with this stuff. But I used one of these remover wipes and not only did it take every little bit of makeup off my face with just one wipe, it took off every last bit of the lash glue and a liquid lipstick with one swipe. I was so incredibly surprised & I’ll never use any other brand of makeup remover wipes again. Online it says they cleanse and tone the skin while hydrating thanks to the hyaluronic acid them. Best part? They’re $9… you seriously can’t beat them & if you’re looking for a great makeup remover wipe for travel or anything else – TRY THESE!

lululemon Base Runner Pant III

I will never love a pair of sweatpants as much as I love these. Bold statement, but these are seriously the bomb. They are made with Rulu fabric & if you’re familiar with lulu’s fabric, you know when you see Rulu in anything, it’s going to feel like you’re putting heaven on your body. They are also sweat wicking, but honestly I wear these to lounge around the house in (currently have them on as I type this post..lol). They’re similar to jogger pants, they have a hugged sensation on your legs, but they’re baggy at the same time. They have a higher waist band and are tight around the ankles. The pockets are huge and they have a drawstring at the top. They’re just so comfortable, you need to at least try them on in a lulu store to feel them, I promise you’ll fall in love!

This post was relatively short, but so was this month! Let me know what some of your favorites for this month were & as always, thanks for reading (:

Product Review: Beets Blu Wireless Heart Rate Moniter

We all know the importance of cardio-respiratory health and how it helps keep our body in healthy working condition. However, many people do not know their target heart rate zone, their max heart rate, their resting heart rate, or how to calculate any of these.

Resting heart rate is pretty self explanatory and it’s just your normal heart rate at rest. Ideally, although everyone is different so there is no SET resting heart rate for everyone, your pulse should be around 60-100 bpm (beats per minute). Athletes generally have a lower heart rate than that since they train a lot & the opposite would be much higher for a person with a poor diet and lack of exercise.

Your max heart rate is the maximum about of beats per minute your heart can achieve. When doing HIIT, this is where your heart rate should be for a short period of time since this is not sustainable because it is an all out effort – but I’ll get into HIIT training later. So, to calculate your max heart rate you do your age minus 220. So for example, I am 22, so I would do 220-22=198. 198 is my max heart rate and where I shoot to keep my HR during my on period of HIIT.

Now, target heart rate zone is important because this is where your heart rate should be to improve your cardiovascular health and where you’ll see improvements in your cardio abilities. Your target heart rate should be around 70% of your max heart rate. So, I take my max heart rate of 198 and multiply that by .7 (198x.7=139). 139 is where I shoot to keep my heart rate when I’m out on runs when I’m training for races, but I also incorporate HIIT as well to improve my pace & cardio.

Now, HIIT training. This is where you’ll get the most bang for your buck in terms of weight loss and cardiovascular improvements. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training, which consists of an ON period of all out effort, and an OFF period to bring your heart rate back down. When I do HIIT, this means I bring my heart rate up to around my max of 198 for a short interval of time, then back down for my recovery period around my target heart rate of 139.

With all this information, how the heck do you track all this during your exercise, how do you know where your heart rate is?! Some people track their pulse by counting the number of beats on their wrist for 15 seconds and multiplying it by 4, but I find that inaccurate and hard to do when I’m focusing on my workout. This is where heart rate monitors come into play. These handy tools track your heart rate for you so you don’t have to.

The specific heart rate monitor I’m reviewing is from a company called Beets Blu. Just to give you some background, Beets Blu started in 2012 by specialists in the fields of fitness technologies, mobile apps, and electronics. They have paper tags (which are a life saver if you lose your phone a lot), scales, and heart rate monitors.

So, the wireless heart rate monitor is first of all wireless and connects with your iPhone (4s & later), iPad (3 and later), and Android (4.3 and later). There is a list of compatible apps on their website, but I already had RunKeeper from my half training so I didn’t have to download anything extra. All you do is connect the monitor with the adjustable strap, and put it around your chest near your diaphragm making sure the electrodes are properly attached to the case and the skin. I had absolutely no problem with this connecting to my RunKeeper app and it never disconnected which is a HUGE plus in my book because if you’ve ever tried HR monitors before you know the biggest problem is making sure it stays connected with your skin. I didn’t have to use any gel to connect it with my skin, it didn’t slip & slide around, and I never had any issues with its battery dying. Good practice tip with heart rate monitors, ALWAYS disconnect the monitor pod from the straps because this will save your battery life and you will avoid any potential issues with your monitor! The strap is also washable so you don’t have to worry about it getting all gross and stinky.

I tried 4 different environments multiple times: outside, inside, resting, and at the gym.

Outside: I ran 2-3 miles a few times and used this monitor every time I went. It’s very cold where I live right now so I had some concerns that it would affect the monitors ability to track my heart rate, but to my surprise – it worked perfectly fine! I’ve used monitors in the past that I go out to run, and it drops my heart rate after 2 minutes and I finish an entire run to find out I had my heart rate tracked for 2 whole minutes… I never once had my heart rate dropped with this monitor and it stayed connected to my RunKeeper app the entire run with no problem! It didn’t slip out of place and was comfortable to run in.

Inside: I do HIIT training on the treadmill at my home and this is where I really noticed a huge improvements in my workouts. It’s really hard, like I said earlier, to know where your heart rate is while exercising. I learned I was keeping my heart rate WAY too high for my rest periods and not high enough for my on periods, which was why I wasn’t seeing any improvements or weight loss. With my Beets Blu monitor, I was able to get my heart rate up to around 198 and let it come back down during my rest periods at a good place. I have seen so much improvement in my cardio since I started using it and I’m actually able to catch my breath so much faster now which is a great indicator that my cardio health is really improving.

Gym: I used this while lifting in the gym and just let my RunKeeper app go while I worked out and I didn’t have any problems with the monitor staying connected with the app even when I walked away from my phone to get a drink.

Resting: I wore the monitor for almost an hour one day just to see if it would stay connected for that long while I cleaned and to my surprise 1. it stayed connected the entire time, and 2. my heart rate was much higher than I thought it would be for cleaning (aka, cleaning is a workout lol).

Overall, I would recommend investing in a heart rate monitor and if you want one that stays connected, won’t give you problems, and is great quality – I highly recommend the Beets Blu wireless monitor which can be found at www.beetsblu.com! As always, thank you so much for reading and I hope this post was informative and let me know if you try out this monitor for yourself and what you think of it! I know you’ll love it! (:

My First Half-Marathon Experience!

About 5 month ago I signed up for the Air Force Half Marathon because I had been reading a lot of things about half marathons and how rewarding they are, so I impulsively signed myself up for one. Before signing up I had only ever ran a 5k, which if you don’t know is only 3.1 miles. Well I downloaded the Nike+ running app and signed up for the coaching feature of a half marathon under “Experienced” instead of “Beginner”. Having only ever run about 4 miles for soccer conditioning in high school I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but I was determined. So June 29th rolls around and my training starts with a 4 mile run. Prior to starting training it suggested I run about 4 miles a week, but I completely disregarded this and decided to hit the gym hard for 3 months and see where that got me. I’m honestly glad I did because I had built up so much muscle in my legs, back, and core the runs really didn’t seem awful. I hit every single run without ever missing a day…. until August 31st…

Once school started I just got so busy I had a hard time adjusting with finding time to study and get my runs in, so I stopped running all together at that point. I was getting really burnt out on running at that point as well. My immune system was starting to fade and I was getting colds and allergies kicked in full force at that time as well so I thought taking a week or 2 off from running was a good idea because I was definitely over training myself with running, the gym and extra races I was doing on my off days. I didn’t feel healthy and I was so tired all the time I could barely stay awake most days, so I knew I had to do something so I could focus in class. Well, taking a week or 2 off turned into completely not running until race day – which actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be having not ran in 3 weeks. My longest run I got to was 11 miles, which I thought was good because I was familiar with running long distances without stopping.

My only goals for my half were to 1. enjoy it and the experience, 2. run the whole thing with no stops, and 3. make it under 2 hours and 30 minutes. I didn’t want to put a lot of pressure on myself with my time because I was more concerned with just finishing it considering I was doing it as a bucket list thing and not for time. Well, if you’re not familiar with the Air Force Half Marathon course, it’s like 40% flat, 60% hills. I had so many people tell me that it was one of the hardest courses they’ve ever done just because of the hills and the elevation chart looked like an EKG test. I was definitely nervous, but confident in my abilities to finish it, solely relying on my quads at this point to get me through it.

Race day rolls around & waking up early isn’t my thing so 5a wasn’t a pleasant experience, but I ate my normal breakfast of a whole wheat english muffin, peanut butter, 1/2 a banana and some buckwheat honey and we were all out the door. We got there around 7 for a race that didn’t start until 8:30 which gave me plenty of time to take it all in & realize what I got myself into. Typical me, even being there an hour and a half early, I was late to the start line by 3 minutes, luckily it took about 6 minutes to get everyone through the start line so I was good and didn’t miss anything. Starting was really annoying though because it took FOREVER for everyone to get spaced out and I was running at about a 12 minute mile because it was difficult trying to navigate through all the people. Right off the bat we ran uphill on the Huffman dam which I don’t think my legs appreciated at all, but I muscled through. At about 3 miles everyone was at about their correct spots and it was smooth sailing. The course itself is beautiful and you get to see the base, Huffman dam & prairie, base housing, the golf course and a few other things. The weather was perfect, about 70 degrees and overcast with some drizzles of rain that felt GREAT. So about mile 5 runners high kicked in and my legs started to get the numb feeling and I felt good overall. miles 3-6 were somewhat flat with only small hills that weren’t too awful. Around mile 9 was when the high started to fade and the pain started to take over, which was a REALLY bad time to fade because miles 8-11 were nothing but on and off ramps on the highway, hills and uneven roads. My pace slowed from about a 10 minute mile to almost a 13 minute mile, but I was really determined not to walk so I just slowed my pace, controlled my breathing and took 2 waters and a Gatorade at every station they had. The second to last mile was a downhill, curved street and the inside of my ankle was absolutely fried after that mile so the last mile was just pain. I ran 12 mile with headphones and took them out for the last mile because I knew I needed more than music to get me through it. There were so many people at the last mile & it was so motivating and inspiring to see so many people in uniform & injured veterans there and cheering you on as you ran the last mile. The whole course was filled with civilians, military & people in cars driving by waving and cheering, it was really motivating. The last 1.1 miles though was something I won’t soon forget. Hearing people cheer your name and telling you that you’ve got it and your almost there, made the whole experience really worth-while and rewarding. My parents and boyfriend also came out and made signs which I thought was awesome, especially my mom’s “I’m sure it seemed like a good idea 3 months ago” sign haha.

When I finished I grabbed a water & thought the worst part was over. Well, no one told me about the post-race leg pain you get that’s probably worse than any pain you feel in your legs while you’re running. My legs were throbbing and I couldn’t stand still. My quads felt like they looked like Phil Heath’s quads and every muscle in my legs felt 5 times bigger than it really was. I downed a protein shake when I got back to the truck and I wasn’t hungry until about 3 hours after I finished. I just felt kinda sick and like my stomach was just really angry at me for running that long, but I killed some Chick Fil A afterwards.

Would I recommend this race to anyone else?

YES. The experience alone is something I feel like everyone should experience and it was rewarding at the same time meeting all my goals & getting to check a bucket list item off.

Would I recommend running a half marathon in general?

Yes. If you have a goal set to run a half marathon or you’re even thinking about running a half, do it. I’m 100% not a runner by any means whatsoever, but challenging yourself and pushing yourself to try new things is such an awesome feeling.

My training for this race was 12 weeks. Training 5-6 days a week with an off day + a cross train day. Increasing my long runs by 10% each week was a good slow way to ease myself into the mileage without injuring myself.

  1. Invest in a GOOD pair of shoes. Go to a running specialty store and get fitted. Learn your foot pronation. Get the correct insoles & make sure you train in them before your race. This is very important to having a comfortable race. I recommend the Brooks Glycerine or Ghost, both are great shoes – but again, learn your pronation!
  2. Make sure you cross train and take your rest days. I overtrained myself and burnt myself out before I even got to peak week – so make sure you take time for yourself and listen to your body. If it’s telling you you’re doing too much, take a step back and cut your runs down – don’t push through it because you’ll either injure yourself or you won’t want to run anymore.
  3. Take your diet into consideration. If you fuel your body correctly, your runs will be so much better and you’ll have so much more energy to get your runs in & continue through your days.
  4. Look into energy gels/chews. They saved my life! My favorite was the Shot Blocks Mocha gel.
  5. Don’t try anything new on race day. Not even a new sports bra. I suggest get what you want to run your race in a few weeks before and train in it first, that way on race day you’ll be familiar with everything.
  6. Get some body glide. Unless nothing on your body rubs together, I promise you’ll thank me for this later.
  7. Hydrate like you’ve never hydrated in your life the days before your race. I think this really saved me because I never felt dehydrated or sluggish in my race. I drank close to a gallon a day for 3 days before my race.
  8. Take the water at every station you feel necessary. If you even feel like you might be thirsty before you hit the next station, take some water at that station. I drank water at every station and Gatorade at every other station. I wanted to make sure I was well hydrated & I never felt like I had too much liquid on my stomach – but that preference changes from person to person. Plus my energy gel contains caffeine so it’s good to follow that with water so you don’t dehydrate.
  9. Read. I did SO much research before running this half it was insane. I probably read over 100 articles. But I only know a few people who have ran a half marathon before so I didn’t really have any experiences to learn from, but I’m glad I read so much on it because I learned what to do, what not to do, what to eat, what to buy, what to stay away from.
  10. Foam roll/stretch. I can’t stress this enough. It’s so important not only for injury prevention but to make sure you don’t feel sore for days.

Race Day Pictures:

I hope this helped and maybe motivated you to sign up for a half marathon or any race you’ve been wanting to do. If you’ve got some tips on running I would love to hear them! I also will never be running a half ever again – but I’ve got other things in my plans for this coming year 😉 As always, thanks for reading!

April Favorites!

I don’t know about anyone else but I am SO happy April is over. There was so much stress from finals week and the last few weeks of school I felt like April was a year-long. I’ve been neglecting to post for a while but I’ve been so wrapped up in studying that I had literally no time for anything else. Thank GOD finals are over & now I can enjoy summer. My April favorites will be very random and mostly makeup because my workouts have really been the same and I’ve been using the same stuff the past month! I’m done rambling so now let’s get into some favorites!

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – $62 at Nordstrom

I’ve raved so much about this foundation, but honestly it’s my favorite foundation I’ve probably ever used. It’s really pricey, but I promise that it is worth ever single penny. The finish it gives your skin makes you look like you’re glowing from within and have zero flaws on your face. It gives great coverage and I don’t feel like it ever clings to any dry patches I may have on my face. I’m oily and I don’t find this to ever make me look like a grease ball, but I also set it with a powder. It lasts for a while too with a powder- without a powder I find it lasts for about 3-4 hours before I have to start blotting and touching up. I’m shade 5.5 and it matches perfectly & there is a HUGE range of shades!

Tory Burch Large All-T Leather Wristlet in Juniper Berry – $185 at Nordstrom

I love this thing! My wonderful mother got it for me after I finished school for a congratulatory gift & it’s quickly become my favorite everyday carryall! It actually fits my iPhone 6 plus and so much more! I have enough room in there for my phone, cards, ID, lipsticks, liners, lip glosses, blotting powder and any other random thing I may need. I like it because 1. the color is life – it’s freakin beautiful & 2. because I hate carrying big purses to the store, bars or any other place I may go & this cuts down on all the things I have to carry! It’s perfect for summer & I know I’ll get a ton of use out of it. Thanks mom (:

Maybelline Rebel Bloom lipsticks – $7.49 at Ulta

So I swatched these a few times and thought about buying them, but I never did because I just wasn’t sure I really loved them. So finally, I bit the bullet and bought not one, but two of these and I absolutely love them! I have the colors Blushing Bud and Peach Poppy. Blushing Bud is much more pink than what shows in the container and Peach Poppy is pretty true to color. I love these because they aren’t drying like most drugstore lipsticks and the colors are beautiful for spring & summer. If you’re looking for a good lipstick for a great price, I’d go check these out!

Cassey Ho’s Hot Body Year Round book – $12.53 on Amazon

This book is amazing! Cassey Ho is a YouTube fitness personality and she’s so motivational and inspiring! This book gives you countless workouts, recipes and meal plans – you can’t go wrong. There’s also a ton of motivational quotes in the book as well & stories she tells along the way. I love Cassey because she’s such a great soul inside & out that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to support this amazing woman! She has an amazing video on YouTube about body shaming and I really think everyone needs to watch it – so I’ll link it here!

Probably the thing I was most excited about is my new makeup vanity/workspace. I’m head over heels about it and could not be happier! It’s all from Ikea & they were all separate things (I’ll link them all down below). I have SO much more storage with this and I don’t feel overwhelmed and crowded like I did with my old vanity. If you’re a makeup hoarder like I am, you need this in your life. Table top, drawers & chair ! I’m in love with it all!

Nice Stems candle – $12.99 at Target

One whiff of this in Target & I was sold. This thing smells SO good. It’s very floral and clean smelling with not too much of an overpowering flower smells. This candle smells exactly like Peony &  Blush Suede from Jo Malone. It’s hard to describe the smell but if you see this at Target, you need to get it because it’s amazing. Plus it’s soy so it’ll burn forever and won’t give off a black smoke like B&BW candles tend to do!

Sinful Colors nail polish in Sail La Vie – $2.99 at Target

This color is beautiful and just looks very pretty on the nails! It’s from the Bloom Blast collection, which has a TON of pretty colors, that recently came out. It stays on for a good amount of time as well without chipping or looking streaky. I’d definitely check the out if you get the chance!

MAC Peaches blush ($22) & MAC Prep & Prime in Radiant Rose ($26)

I put these both together because they’re both MAC products & I think they look beautiful together! Peaches is a very peachy/coral colored blush and it just looks so natural and beautiful on the cheeks. It’s the perfect color for most skin tones & I think it’ll be great for summer. I also use the prep & prime stick in radiant rose which gives BEAUTIFUL glow on top of concealer. They have different shades for different undertones, but I’m pink undertone so I got this color & it’s perfect with my skin! You just can’t go wrong with MAC!

Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in #15 Sensible – $34 at Chanel counters

I know, it’s a lot for a lipgloss, but honestly it’s more like a laquer when it goes on. It’s very thick & pigmented and gives pretty great coverage with one application. Chanel can do no wrong in my eyes and their stuff is always great quality- which is why I have no problem spending money there. It’s not sticky and it lasts a pretty long while & it smells like every Chanel product does – which is a great bonus. The shade I got is a very pretty light pink ! And has anyone seen their new packaging for these and the lipsticks?! It’s fabulous!

L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation – 11.99 at Target

So I’ve heard so much about this foundation & I decided to give it a try and see what all the hype was about. Let me tell you, this stuff is high end quality, at drugstore price. It reminds me a lot of the new NARS foundation because it’s a demi matte finish and looks beautiful on the skin. I had to get two colors though which is the only downside because the color range was kind of nonexistent. But when I mix Natural Buff & Shell Beige together, I get the perfect color for my skin tone! It lasts for a pretty long time too, I didn’t have to blot or touch up for about 7 hours, which is amazing for drugstore makeup. The coverage is great too, it really covers everything & is medium coverage, but definitely buildable to full coverage! It also feels like nothing is on your skin & I didn’t think it looked cakey at all when I applied it with a beauty blender! Definitely the best drugstore foundation I’ve used in a while!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage concealer – $28 at Sephora

This is easily the best concealer I’ve used, even better than the NARS creamy concealer, by far! It’s full coverage with one swipe and feels so weightless underneath the eyes- so basically it does exactly what the name says, even though it’s incredibly long. I think UD did an amazing job with this concealer & it doesn’t crease AT ALL underneath my eyes, even with wearing it for a while. I’m in the shade Fair Neutral and it’s perfect for me! I would recommend this stuff to everyone & if you don’t have it already, you need it now!

Jo Malone Body Creme in Peony & Blush Suede – $75 at Nordstrom

$75 for a lotion? C’mon. Really? YES! If you’ve tried Jo Malone stuff before you know there’s a reason as to why it’s so expensive. It keeps you hydrated literally for 4 days if you didn’t shower and it smells, just, omg. There’s no way to explain it correctly because it’s just amazing. This is my favorite scent she makes and I just love this stuff. It’ll last forever too because I’ve had mine since January and I still have well over 3/4 left in the jar. Definitely give her products a try!

Nike Free 4.0 in Tropical Twist w/ Swarovski Crystals – Gold Home Couture

I’m just obsessed with these things. They’re beautiful and they’re my favorite color. What more could a girl want? I got them off of the same Etsy store I got my blingy Nike gym bag from, which is linked in the description and I just can’t. She used the highest quality crystals and you can definitely tell with the way these beauties sparkle! They’re also a great price for how high demand these things are. I’ve seen some pairs go for over $300 on eBay ! Give her Etsy store some love !! She’s an amazing person!

Spring Makeup Essentials!

I’m so excited to do this post because I love spring! Everything is coming back to life, the weather is amazing and it’s just a happy season. With spring also comes warmer temperatures and a reason to wear bright & fun makeup! I wanted to get this post up about my must-haves for the spring when it comes to doing my makeup. Enjoy (:

First off, primers. Probably the most important step of all. If you don’t use a primer, your makeup will slip & slide everywhere. I use colorscience skin calming (got this from my esthetician) because I have rosacea so it cancels my redness, SPF 20 and it fills my pores! I also use bareMinerals oil control primer in my T-zone because I tend to get oily in the Spring & Summer. These two together are a dream!

Foundation! Since I use an oil control primer, I can get away with using a luminous foundation to give me some glow back! This one from Giorgio Armani is my current favorite. I’ve had it for about a year now, but always come back to it when I feel my face looks too flat! It gives a gorgeous finish that literally makes you look so glowy and healthy!

Concealer isn’t always a must, but when I do use it, I use the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer. I feel this one creases the least on me and gives a very non-cakey looking finish. It also doesn’t move once you set it with powder which is important because I tend to be oily around my eyes and this really helps control that.

Setting powders aren’t really a must for me in the spring, but in the summer I can’t go without it. This La Mer powder is a long time favorite of mine. It has light reflecting particles in it that always catch the light perfectly! I use the shade Translucent over my GA foundation & it gives me an even more luminous look! I also love the Secret Brightening powder my Laura Mercier !

Bronzers, highlighters and blushes, oh my! Haha, these I feel are essential to making you look alive and healthy when you have makeup on. I use the Dior Nude Tan in 03 Cinnamon for a contour & I absolutely love it. It’s not too ashy and not too orange. On my skin tone, it’s the perfect color. Next, my favorite all time blush is Springsheen by MAC. It’s a really pretty pinky, coral with a golden shimmer in it that makes you look very healthy & awake. On top, I always use the Hourglass Luminous Light highlighter. It just gives you a gorgeous glow without all the glitter and sparkles. It literally looks like you’re glowing from within!

For the spring, the pallete I always seem to reach for is my dressyourface pallete by Anastasia Beverly Hills. The colors in this are perfect for everyday makeup to crazy colorful makeup! I believe it’s still available in some stores, but I also really love the Naked 3 pallete, the Lorac Pro 1 & 2, and the Tartellete pallete by Tarte!

Makeup setting spray is a must for because because I have pretty oily skin. I’ve tried just about every oil-control setting spray on the market and I always go back to MAC Fix+. This just gives such a pretty hydrated finish and it always keeps my makeup in place. I also feel I don’t get very oily with this setting spray either!

LIPS! My favorite part! I have probably more lipsticks, lip glosses, stains, and liners than I’d like to admit- but I like having choices. My favorite colors for the spring are NARS Odalisque gloss because it’s not sticky and lasts forever! NYX Butter Gloss in Peaches & Cream because it’s SUCH a pretty color (& affordable!). Dior lipstick in . MAC Coral Bliss & Snob ! All these colors are perfect for spring! Swatches —–>springswatches

This is one of the best self tanners I’ve used in a long time! It even competes with my all time favorite, Vita Liberata ! I love the color this gives and how it makes you look like you’ve spend a week in Mexico. It’s a very natural color and a great alternative to tanning beds, which are awful- lol, and actual tanning outside! This stuff develops in 2 hours and then you can wash it off and you have a beautiful tan! So it’s great if you have a couple hours to get ready! It’s made without alcohol or parabens- so it’s safe for you as well (:

I hope you all loved these essentials and try some of them out yourself! Let me know some of your essentials! Thanks for reading (:
