February Favorites!

February in Ohio has brought some realllllllll weird weather, but it was a quick and pleasant month. Here are some of my favorite products that I enjoyed the whole month of February, enjoy (:

lululemon Toasty Tech Tight II

I wear these leggings 99% of my life and I’m not even made about it. They are so incredibly warm because they have sweat-wicking tech fleece brushed on the inside of them. I’ve worn them in single-digit weather and could barely feel the cold wind on my legs, it was insane. They are probably the most comfortable pair of leggings I own, they’re stretchy & thick, they have a higher waist band & reflective pockets so they’re great or running at night. If it’s cold where you live & you want to get a good pair of leggings that will keep you warm outside, these are perfect!

Skin Food by Aubrey

I discovered these products at my local Whole Foods store a few weeks back & decided I’d give them a try! I got the Detox Face Mask, the Lavender Probiotic Natural Deodorant, and the Immunity Body Butter. She creates Artisan organic skincare and all of her products are made with raw ingredients. Aubrey lives somewhat close to me & her products are sold locally in Ohio at select Whole Foods stores! Supporting local is huge for me & her products are seriously amazing. The detox mask you mix with water & then apply the serum after and the next day your skin will be glowing and radiant looking. The deodorant is fantastic & I can go through a workout and not smell myself (which is a huge feat for me lol). The body butter is probably my favorite item of all because it’s so hydrating and smells AMAZING! I really believe its very important to watch what you put on your body as well as what you ingest. It’s hard with all these products out now a days, but products like these make going to organic products so much easier! Check out her Etsy shop here (: She has everything you possibly think of!

Nike Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit

I’m obsessed. Lol. I really don’t have much to say about them except I was so excited to get these and they’re so different for me because I usually wear Free Runs & Air Max shoes. These are super light & they are actually incredibly comfortable, if you’re looking to change up your shoes or you’re bored with your current shoes, check these out!

Young Living Essential Oils

I discovered Young Living not long ago & I’m so glad I decided to finally take the leap of faith. These oils are actually amazing & I’m not gonna lie, I was super skeptical about them to begin with. I figured what could an oil actually do for you? But boy was I wrong. I already have a few favorites but I’m thinking about doing a whole post on that here in the near future (let me know if you’d be interested in seeing a post like that!). Since using these, I’ve really reduced the anxiety I deal with, my sleep has gotten dramatically better, my stress has really lessened & so have the effects I have from it, and my energy level have increased. Sounds like a miracle but I really do believe these oils have worked, at least my mind believes they have because I’ve seen really great improvements from using these. I got the Starter Kit with the Dewdrop diffuser & if you don’t know a whole lot about essential oils, definitely do some research on them!

Sephora Express Cleansing Wipes

These cleansing wipes are EVERYTHING. I’ve used just about every makeup remover wipe under the sun and these easily take the cake. I used them to take up normal makeup for about a week, but the real test was just the other night when I used them to take off a full face of glam makeup. I use the House of Lashes lash glue & if you’ve used it before you understand how incredibly hard it is to get all of it off. I’ve had lash glue stuck in my lashes before for over a week with this stuff. But I used one of these remover wipes and not only did it take every little bit of makeup off my face with just one wipe, it took off every last bit of the lash glue and a liquid lipstick with one swipe. I was so incredibly surprised & I’ll never use any other brand of makeup remover wipes again. Online it says they cleanse and tone the skin while hydrating thanks to the hyaluronic acid them. Best part? They’re $9… you seriously can’t beat them & if you’re looking for a great makeup remover wipe for travel or anything else – TRY THESE!

lululemon Base Runner Pant III

I will never love a pair of sweatpants as much as I love these. Bold statement, but these are seriously the bomb. They are made with Rulu fabric & if you’re familiar with lulu’s fabric, you know when you see Rulu in anything, it’s going to feel like you’re putting heaven on your body. They are also sweat wicking, but honestly I wear these to lounge around the house in (currently have them on as I type this post..lol). They’re similar to jogger pants, they have a hugged sensation on your legs, but they’re baggy at the same time. They have a higher waist band and are tight around the ankles. The pockets are huge and they have a drawstring at the top. They’re just so comfortable, you need to at least try them on in a lulu store to feel them, I promise you’ll fall in love!

This post was relatively short, but so was this month! Let me know what some of your favorites for this month were & as always, thanks for reading (:

Fitness Update

I really enjoy doing these monthly updates & I think I’m going to start listing my goals on these posts to set myself accountable for each month. SO, I just got back from Florida on Saturday night & it was a nice relaxing vacation where I did nothing but shop, eat, swim and fish – perfect vacation. It was especially nice because I had a week to let loose before I started my half marathon training which started today.

As far as fitness goes, I think I adjusted my issue of eating whatever I wanted before vacation & I had a pretty good meal plan going & managed to lose about 5 pounds before vacation – which I’m sure I gained back on vacation, but I refuse to step on the scale lol. I find having food made and planned out really helped me – if you don’t plan, you’re planning to fail. I was on a pretty strict meal plan that I set for myself as well consisting mainly of lean meats, greens, and sustainable carbs, 6 times a day. I really feel my schooling is starting to kick in and allow me to understand proper nutrition and what exactly my body needs in order to function properly. I also allowed myself a cheat MEAL, not cheat WEEKEND like I had been doing. Honestly, it just takes a lot of will power & once you get that “just one piece of pizza” or “well, i already had 1 cookie, what’s another gonna do?” out of your head, it’s pretty easy to stick with it. It’s hard though, it really is. I know a lot of people struggle with the dieting aspect of fitness but food isn’t something we were meant to eat to enjoy, we were meant to eat to fuel our bodies. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with cheats though & it’s actually essential to success because you can’t completely deprive your body of what it likes because then you’ll just crave it more & when you give in you’ll binge.

it’s all about balance.

So as far as fitness I’m cutting back now on my lifting to twice a week & doing more of a cross training type of workout & running 4 times a week. My half marathon training just started today and I had a rough 4 mile run with fartleks. If you don’t know, fartlek is a Swedish word that means speed play and basically you’ll run a faster pace for an allotted amount of time and run a constant pace for an allotted amount of time & switch between the two for however many miles. Today I had a mile warm up, 2 miles of fartleks and a mile cool down. For the first day of training I was shocked for sure because I haven’t ran in over 2 and a half months so my body was a little rusty, but my endurance definitely felt okay, which I was overjoyed about. I can already tell though that my hips and knees are going to give me problems. I figure foam rolling, ice and anti-inflammatorys are going to be my BFF. If you have any remedies for these issues, please help a girl out!

I also seem to really like the PowerBar energy chews on my runs & I really do feel like they make a difference, but they have caffeine in them & my body doesn’t handle that crash very well because I never drink pop or coffee. So, if you also have any gels/chews/powders you use- please help a girl out with that too!

Other than all that jazz, I’m pretty content with where I am with my fitness & I think I’ll definitely challenge myself for the month of June with my goals because if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you & ain’t that the damn truth.

July Goals:

1. Hit every long run of the month with confidence & keep up with training! (No skipping runs!)

2. Really stay strict on my meals and don’t get lazy with prep or eating! (One cheat MEAL a week!)

3. Stay ahead of knee/hip issues with stretching, foam rolling, icing & mobility! *********

I hope wherever you are in your fitness journey, it’s going well & I hope this motivated some of you to set some goals for yourself in the hot month of July! If you have any suggestions on hip/knee soreness or energy gels/chews please leave them below! Also, if you’d like to share your journey with me, I’d love to hear it!

As always, thanks for reading (:

Fitness Update

I hope everyone had a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend! Thank you to all that are serving, have served or may have lost their life in battle – I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifice. Also, congratulation to the Class of 2015 for graduating because I know a few schools by me had graduation this past weekend!

So, I think I’m going to start doing a fitness check in every month and post it on here to not only keep myself motivated but to hopefully break through to someone else who might be in the same spot I’m in! I’ve been consistent with my workouts for little over a year now and to date – I’ve lost around 35ish pounds because my weight fluctuates a lot. I’ve had issues the past couple months because I’ve kinda hit a plateau and I’m not gonna lie, it is a little disheartening seeing the number on the scale not change at all despite all the effort. My weak point is 100% my diet – I eat perfectly during the week and I work hard in the gym & it’s like I get to the weekend and I’m just like okay – I’ve been good all week, let me get a pizza, some mac and cheese some hamburgers and whatever else I can see in sight. Then come Monday, the 3-4lbs I lost during the week from last weekends binge are right back on & I’m back at square one. I’ve learned you cannot reward yourself with food. Instead, in my FitBook I’ve set weekly goals and rewards for myself that have absolutely nothing to do with food. Once you learn that food is only for fuel and you should always put good food in your body to be able to perform at peak, you’ll learn that you really don’t need that cheeseburger and fries.

I’ve gone from a jean size 31 to a 26 in this time, which has been where I’ve seen most of my progress. People always say go by how your clothes fit, not by the number on the scale and I’ve come to learn that’s so incredibly true. In the last couple months I know I’ve put on a good bit of muscle because I lift almost everyday. Once I realized this, I learned to stay off the scale as much as possible.

I seemed to realize a plataue around the same time I started lifting more, which I think might be part of the reason, and that’s totally okay with me. My fitness routine has changed a lot the last 6 months. I went from working out 2-3 times a week only lifting maybe 1 of those days to lifting at least 5-6 times a week and cardio 3 or 4 days a week + some crossfit normally 4-5 days as well. So I know I’m not hitting a stand still because I’m not active, I just need to give it time. Nothing worth having comes easy and I can see why people give up so easily when they hit a wall, because it really does feel like you aren’t getting anywhere, but you are – I promise.

“Without struggle, there is no progress”

What really seems to help me and keep me on track is a food and fitness log of every meal and every workout. Seeing what I did through the week not only gives a sense of accomplishment, but it really keeps you committed to eat well because if you eat a bad meal when you aren’t supposed to, you’re not gonna wanna write it down – so I always think, ‘Okay Ang, no – you don’t need 8 tablespoons of peanut butter because that’s a lot of calories and fat and that’ll look bad in the log’ LOL. That’s really helped keep me strict with my diet and I also make sure I get at least a lift or cardio in almost everyday. Meal prepping is also a huge help because if you already have your meals planned out and ready, you’ll spend less time with the fridge door open staring at the leftover chipotle from last night. This has also been a huge help because I’m really bad with never knowing what I want to eat, and by the time I would decide it was something I shouldn’t have been eating.

So I’ll do another check-in exactly a month from now & hopefully I’ll have stayed on track and these things will have kept working for me. Plus it’s summer & that’s extra motivation now knowing that if I want to be tan I have to actually go to the pool and lay out LOL.

Let me know some tips and tricks you use to stay committed to your diet & also if you’re in a similar position as me ! We all hit rough spots on our journey, but that’s what makes it so interesting! Thanks for reading (:
